Five Netflix Shows To Watch

Processed with VSCO with s2 presetI am obsessed with films, which means that when I found out about Netflix, there was no way I wasn’t getting an account. I lived off months of free trials using all my different cards and emails until finally I settled on an account, sharing it with my parents and boyfriend. I thought that today, I would share my top five favourite TV shows that are on Netflix (original and non-original), although there are tonnes of good programs on Netflix and still a lot I have not seen. Some of the other shows I like but have not mentioned below are; The OA, Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, Vampire Diaries and How I met your Mother. They are awesome series, but unfortunately I am only going to discuss five with you today in hope that I may inspire you to try new series and discover new favourites on Netflix.

1. Sense Eight
sense8

Oh my word! This show is insane. It’s slightly similar to the Matrix, with it focusing on a group of eight people each with their own lives and stories coming together through the power of telepathy (well something similar to telepathy). It is really hard to explain, but they are all connected in a way which means they can act for one another and become one another in certain situations. For example, when one person got into a fight, the other eight people could help them out by taking over the body of the person and fighting for them – if that makes sense. It is really hard to explain, but it’s an amazing show to watch. I was skeptical at first, but I soon found myself hooked, only a few episodes in. I just loved the different dynamics within the group, ranging from a cop to a hacker to a woman in prison for a crime she didn’t commit. This series explores a lot of different issues in a lot of clever and unusual ways. As the series is set on the eight characters all living in different places, the TV show is filmed in eight different locations making it very cleverly filmed and edited together, which in itself makes this TV series worth watching. I will say that this show does contain some nudity and sexual scenes, but it is only to emphasise to the audience the intense feelings between the group of eight people known as the sensates. I would definitely recommend this TV series. It is only two seasons long and is returning for a two hour long special in 2018 which I am buzzing for. I know I have not explained this series very well, but its just one of the series which you won’t really understand until you watch it yourself so if I were you, I would definitely go and give this a go.

2. Black Mirror
black-mirrorThe reason I love this Netflix show is due to the fact that each episode is its own little story in itself. In other words, each episode follows its own storyline, focusing on very futuristic ideas. Each episode left me with some very thought provoking questions and thoughts making me think about how the world we live in could change if we kept living the way we do. Some of the episodes were rather disturbing and made me very confused, like this woman who gets kidnapped the same way every day and gets drugged again waking up to the beginning of a new day but going through the same things she experienced yesterday. One of my favourite episodes was ‘San Junipero’ based on the idea of a living heaven, for when people became old and were in a care home. The idea is based around two ladies who fall in love over many different dates eventually deciding on whether they would like to live life in the afterlife heaven or not. It was a great episode and was a very clever concept making me think about love and the afterlife. Obviously I do not want to spoil anything so If you want to find out what other issues Black Mirror explores then you will have to go over and watch it.

3. Stranger Things
Stranger_Things_logoOh my goodness!! Can we just take a minute out to appreciate how awesome this TV series is … thank you! This series really shocked me. I was not expecting it to be any good, as you know it sounded a bit naff being out a bunch of kids who are being chased by the creature that lives in the ‘Upside Down’. Honestly though … woah. I just can’t even begin to tell you how obsessed I was with this program when it first came out. I re-watched it like 5 times making sure I understood everything and picked every detail up. I just loved the friendship between the kids and the innocence of the actions. It’s not often that I really love a series that much that I watch it over and over again. So if you haven’t seen it, you really have to go and watch it to see what I mean. The heartwarming moment that just made the series for me was towards the end when Mike and Eleven share their little intimate moments … my heart. It was just so cute! Seeing how the children express their feelings for one another was just so cute and innocent, making my heart melt even more when the last few minutes of the last episode occurred. Stranger Things basically revolves around the idea of this group of four boys, whose friend goes missing during one night out. It is the story of his friends trying to find out what happened to him and along the way they meet this girl called Eleven, who has telepathic powers. The series goes on to solve the mystery of what happened to Will, as well as following the story of the girl Eleven. I found there was a great mixture of thrilling moments, surprising moments and romantic moments making it for me a wonderful series executed in the perfect manner. The series is returning for a season 2 in October which I am so stoked for … ahh!! šŸ˜€

4. RiverdaleĀ
riverdaleThis has been massively talked about over the last few months and some may be wondering if it is really worth the hype. In my opinion, it is. It is a great murder mystery show revealing little bits of information in each episode, enabling the viewer to start making guesses as to who it could be. However, the show was very cleverly made as I swear after each episode I thought it was someone different to the episode before. It would give some really obvious clues/make it look like it was one person, then in the next episode it would throw a curve ball just completely throwing me off who the murderer could be. Even more annoyingly, season one is left on a huge cliffhanger so I am having to wait patiently for season 2 to air. The show revolves around the story of a guy called Archie (based off the Archie comics) and in his home town their has been a murder of a boy who attended his school. Betty, Veronica and Jughead are the three other main characters which the TV show revolves around showing the dynamic family and romance issues that float around this group of people. The whole of the series is the logical investigation of the murder as the four characters try to figure out the story of Riverdale’s murder. It is a riveting series that always left me intrigued and wanting to find out more. I would definitely recommend this series if you are interested in teen murder TV series, this really will float your boat.

5. 13 Reasons Why
eab2428e201e7b9ccf2892e3565d3d94836ff13a13 Reasons Why was a more thought provoking and serious series compared to the other four mentioned above. It revolves around the 13 tapes left by a girl who has killed herself. It is in a way, her suicide note to the people who contributed towards her suicide and each side of the 13 tape contains a different story that eventually ended up killing this girl. This series was more serious and a tiny bit depressing compared to the other series I have watched on Netflix, however it was very powerful and made me think loads of high school and teenage life. I did find myself crying some times as some of the issues explored within this series were heartbreaking and made me realise how awful some peoples lives are. Rape, exclusion, depression and vulnerability are some of the common themes that are explored in this series. I found myself occasionally relating to the main character as the pain she must have gone through and some of the stuff that she went through made me realise how lucky I am, although there are people out there who need help and who are going through some horrific things. I would highly recommend this series if you are wanting to watch something that is quite relevant to student lives today. I am not saying that everyone experiences what Hannah goes through, but I am sure there are bits that we can all relate to whether its a feeling or a thought and it is important to talk to people when you do. I would just like to point out that this series is full with quite a few triggering themes and is hard to watch in some places, so please just bare that in mind if you watch the series. All in all, it is a great thought provoking series that does make you think about high school life, and I would recommend if you want to watch a more serious TV program.

So there you have it, five TV programs that I would totally recommend on Netflix. Obviously the opinions expressed are all my own and I know that not everyone will like the same things I like but If you want to try something new then seriously give the above programs a go. Please feel free to comment your own opinions on any of these series and what you would recommend on Netflix as soon I will have finished How I Met Your Mother and will need something else to binge watch. Have a great weekend everyone and keep an eye out on our weekly quote coming out on Monday.

It is interesting! Some episodes are a little bit weird but I find the concepts of the episodes really cool. Yes episode 2 comes out soon!! ahh!!! 13 reasons why is deffo a 50/50 kind of tv show. I was like you actually but I was bored one day and decided to start watching it and I actually finished watching it within 2 days! It is a really powerful series (in my opinion) but does explore some deep issues so if you are not ready for such a heavy program then I would suggest staying away from it until you are ready. x
