Now that you’ve met Bullseye, which if you missed you can check the post out here, its time for you to meet my little baby, Jace. Jace’s actual name is Jason, named after Jason and the Argonauts, although we all just call him Jac unless he’s in big trouble! And he’s always in trouble. This little puppy is so naughty! But before we get into that, Im going to tell you his past because Jace was not always out little baby.
Now after we moved to our newest home Bullseye started to display signs of separation anxiety. It was clear that he wasn’t happy at home. He would cry the entire time we were away and wouldn’t leave us alone when we got back. We needed to figure out a way to make sure he wasn’t alone so long. It wasn’t easy. Doggy daycare was too expensive and though my mum came home during lunch and I came home as soon as I could after classes at 6th-form finished, it wasn’t enough. So my mum and I decided he needed a companion. Another dog. My step dad was so against the idea – He’d be fine, he’d get used to it. But 6 months in and he still wasn’t used to it. Now my mum worked as a property maintainer, a cleaner for the communal areas of flats, and one day she was this adorable little puppy being walked outside one of the flats. When she went over to give him a little cuddle, the man said that he was looking for a home for him, so she said to bring him over that evening to see if he got along with Bully. So that evening, when everyone was home, this man brought around this tiny little puppy and well, that puppy never left.
Now this little puppies name was Ernie. He was 5 and a half months old, and he had been through hell and back. He had been bred at a puppy farm, a place where he had been locked in a tiny crate with his 5 brothers and sisters, before being bought for showing. A purebred Cocker Spaniel does well at shows, but he was too little and his confirmation a little dodgy, so he wasn’t good enough for that. He was castrated and had his dew claws removed so that he may work as a working dog, yet he couldn’t be sold. So this man had brought him to us, where he proceed to basically just leave him. He asked for no money, no papers, nothing. Just said ‘he’s yours then’ and left. He had been in charge of finding this dog a safe home for weeks now and was glad to find somewhere he could be safe. And he was.
Yes this little Ernie, is Jace. When we got him, Jace was so unwell. He was 3kg underweight and had a bad infection in his back leg where his claw had been removed. He knew sit, but his name was a mystery to him, so we changed it. That first night, he slept in my arms and had such nightmares, he shook and twitched all night. But he was so darling. That was the first thing I called him and he still answers to it today, Darling. The next day, I called in sick at college and took him to the vet to get his leg treated and to get him registered. I held him the whole way and he cried in the car. Bless him I don’t think he knew he was somewhere to stay. That first day was the longest day ever. I tried to get him used to his new life, new food, new family, as best I could. But he was so little.
Jace is now 2 and a half years old. He is the most loving little dog you will ever meet. He loves to sit on your stomach and curl up literally on top of you, that is if you don’t let him sit with his two paw on each of your shoulders. He just loves his cuddles. Now don’t get me wrong, I love his cuddles too, but gods he can be very forward and doesn’t exactly understand personal space. He will fall asleep on you with his head curled up under your chin. He also loves to be outside. Its amazing to watch him. He will just go and sit outside with his nose towards the wind and just sit there. I think he just likes to be out there because of the cages. He’s such a happy little thing. He bouches around like crazy and we’ve just got his recall good enough for him to go off lead! Im so proud of him. its so cute, everytime i come home he rushes up to me, sits down and just cries. im so happy that hes so happy in our family, well hes happy enought to cry when I get home.
Now for the cheeky part. Jace’s favourite habit in the morning is to steal things. He will literally go around the house and steal anything he can get hold of. Shoes, socks, pyjamas, tissues, clothes, dressing down strings (a personal favourite it seems), you name it. He will just grab it and run off. He won’t do anything to it though. it think he thinks its a game, I steal it run over here and you chase me. Its great fun! Now he may be a thief but he’s my little thief! He’s also incredibly food orientated! He will snatch any food off you from anywhere and he will swallow it whole. its so naughty but tis a habit we haven’t been able to get rid of. But, his absolute favourite tree is strawberries! Who would have known, but he adores them. Will probably take you arm off for just one. But he wouldn’t hurt a fly otherwise.
So now that you’ve met my boys, I hope you love them as much as I have. Let me know in the comments below if you have any pets or wish to have any pets? Thank you so much for reading.
