Some of you guys may be wondering why Jenny and I haven’t been posting this past month. Where have we been hiding? We both stopped posting anything at the end of November, and this wasn’t because we wanted to at all – It was purely down to university and real life. Both Jenny and I are in our final year of university, third year, and to say that this year has been harder than previous years is a bit of an understatement. For us, this year has taken up a huge amount of time and effort, and for me at least has really exhausted me. No part of university is easy, not really, but this year has been a little tougher than the last few. It took us both time to figure this year out and to settle in.
I ran into this year at university full speed, with every intention to read all the material, to do all the prep work and to keep up with all my deadlines. But most of all, the major thought I couldn’t shake was the idea of the dissertation. I was so determined to do all of this that by week 7 of university I was what is call run down. I was shattered. I had run in at top speed and it hadn’t done me any favours. Productivity was low and my work-life balance was so messed up. I realised that I just needed to take a step back. Jenny agreed that we couldn’t keep up with everything. Between a 12,000 word dissertation, three 4,000 word essays, everyday life and the blog, I was stressed out and I needed to step back.
So at the end of November, both Jenny and I decided to step back, to strip back everything and build ourselves back up. I will do a whole post on a student work-life balance and what it should be, but for now I will just explain that this was why we stopped posting for a bit. We needed the time for ourselves to recuperate. With the much needed Christmas holidays, we both had the time we needed to feel much better and are ready to get back to it.
I hope that you all understand that this hiatus was something that we both needed. Now we feel so much better and have a much more relaxed outlook on everything.
